From her press release:

ORONO – Maine House Democratic Leader Rep. Emily Ann Cain, D-Orono, officially announced her 2012 bid for the State Senate in District 30 Tuesday night at a gathering of her supporters in downtown Orono. Democratic State Senator Elizabeth Schneider, who currently holds the seat, is termed out in 2012 and unable to seek reelection.

“I’m running for Senate with a focus on growing our economy and putting Maine people back to work,” said Cain. “Maine people need representatives in Augusta that don’t just manage today’s crisis, but provide leadership and work for solutions that improve economic growth and opportunity in the long-run.”

Cain added, “My focus is on real solutions for job creation in Maine, like investing in economic development, lowering energy costs, improving our roads and bridges, and linking business and education to prepare our workforce for the jobs of the future.”

But, right now, Cain’s energy will remain centered on the current legislative session until adjournment in April. A larger announcement with a broad group of volunteers and supporters will be planned for that time.

Cain has served in the Maine House since 2004, and is currently the House Democratic leader. Prior to earning the top leadership post in the House Democratic caucus, she served as the Chair of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, where she helped write and pass five bipartisan budgets.

“I am ready to cover every inch of this Senate District in 2012,” said Cain. “I want to earn the support of voters by listening to the issues on their minds, and hearing their ideas for how to move Maine forward.”

Senate District 30 includes the communities of Alton, Argyle Twp., Bradford, Edinburg, Enfield, Greenbush, Howland, Hudson, Kingman Twp., LaGrange, Lee, Lincoln, Mattawamkeag, Maxfield, Old Town, Orono, Passadumkeag, Penobscot Nation Indian Island (a/k/a Penobscot Nation Voting District), Springfield, Twombly a/k/a T3-R1, Veazie, Webster Plantation and Winn.
