My Photos of Saturday’s Blaine House Rally- and Some Questions

Posted on December 5, 2011. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: |

I have a few questions for the LePage administration myself: Why the need for so many Maine State Troopers, including 2 teams of police dogs?

The above album of pictures were taken between 9:30 and 10am on Saturday, about an hour before the rally. I am curious why Governor LePage felt it necessary to have such a large police presence- counted 7 marked state trooper vehicles, multiple Capitol police cruisers, and who knows how many “unmarked” were there.

Additionally, multiple state troopers were on the Blaine House grounds with an officer tasked with watching down over the hill at the Occupy Augusta campsite.

And there were multiple troopers driving back and forth between the Blaine House and Statehouse. Photo 1:

My rough guess? There was a 3:1 ratio of unemployed Mainers and supporters to police officers.

Who authorized the overtime/ weekend costs involved? My guess would be LePage and John Morris.

How much did it cost? Well, that we will never know (unless that sort of info is available via FOIA, which I doubt).

I also doubt that this waste of taxpayer money will ever be investigated by Charlie Summers, Bruce Poliquin, or William Schneider…

LePage Calls Saturday Unemployed Constituent Meeting “Bull Shit”; Stresses Disdain

Breaking from MPBN:

Participants in a private meeting between Governor Paul LePage and out-of-work Mainers on Saturday apparently had differing opinions of its outcome.

Three unemployed Mainers, who had participated in a rally by the Maine People’s Alliance which prompted the LePage administration to hold the meeting, described the meeting as a positive conversation.

Although the Governor declined their requests to hold a public meeting with unemployed workers and refused to guarantee that he would not seek to apply new cuts and restrictions to unemployment insurance for those affected by the economic downturn, he did back off his previous comments implying that the jobless were lazy or not looking for work.

Governor LePage had a different interpretation. After the meeting, as was reported on MPBN this morning, his temper flared.

The Governor declared to members of the media and other witnesses that the “entire thing” was “bullshit.”

Bangor Daily News has more specific details on the Governor’s outburst, as well as reactions by his staff:

When Capitol News Service reporter Mal Leary questioned LePage after that closed-door meeting with O’Brien and the three job seekers, however, the governor had a different take.

Asked by Leary what he thought of the meeting and ultimately about O’Brien’s letter, LePage talked for a couple minutes about the politics involved.

“It’s all a big play and I think it’s bullshit,” the governor said, pausing for a minute then adding slowly, “Bull …. shit.”

With that, the governor’s press secretary, Adrienne Bennett, ushered LePage into a waiting SUV and the interview was over, Leary said Monday.

Sure does change things, huh? So… when was the Governor lying- when he sent out the Saturday press release, when the administration took and released this photo showing all smiles, or when he was discussing the meeting today with Mal Leary?
